Large Rolling Carriage Systems Make New Applications Possible for Steel Cable and Hose Carriers

rc225.jpg (25592 bytes)New carriage system technology, created to provide the stationary and moving supporting structures required to make cable and hose carriers work properly in large, demanding applications where cable and conduit weights are far greater than normal, has been extended to large scale systems by KabelSchlepp America, Inc. The carriage system, which includes a moving carriage attached to a fixed track or rails, keeps all typical loading -- except acceleration and deceleration loads -- off the cable carrier itself.

These rolling carriage systems include integral drum rollers and wheels as part of the rolling trolley to allow cable and hose carriers to be applied to very large and heavy duty applications. An integral rolling support trolley pulls the drums, maintaining chain support throughout the system’s full range of movement.

Support rollers affixed to the trolley effectively increase the total travel capabilities by supporting the upper self-supporting section of the carrier, extending the range of cable carriers to applications involving higher speeds and greater distances than usually tolerated, where travel exceeds the self-supporting length of the carrier. Long systems in high temperature and/or harsh applications, for example, may preclude using non-metallic carriers; the alternative metal carrier results in a heavy duty carrier, which will require a rolling carriage system.

In addition, the types of hoses needed on harsh, dirty, corrosive environments often prohibit the use of festoons. Large flame cutting machines, for example, with their hot, contaminated environments, typically benefit from such carriage systems.

This new technology, which off loads the chain carrier system itself, has dramatically reduced carriage system loads on towing motors, providing superior protection where expensive hoses are used, and separate electrical cables from fluid hoses in nested systems where desirable. A unique system is specifically designed for each application.

KabelSchlepp America, Inc., designs and manufactures a broad range of cable and hose carriers – including metal, plastic, and hybrid carriers – for a broad range of applications from small size automotive and printer applications to automation, robotics, machine tools, and offshore oil rigs.
